Excellent food served well.
We’ll be back.
Update: A member of our group was very ill with Campylobacter after eating the liver pate and needed antibiotics. He’s still communicating with Environmental Health and has not been happy with the response from The Dog. Shame! I used to really enjoy going there.

Honestly I'm so underwhelmed by my experience here.
My partner and I booked a table today to go for Sunday lunch. I booked online and it wasn't accepted straight away, it took a few minutes for them to get back to us and I sort of wish they hadn't.
It was Sunday so it was pretty busy! First time we've been but I'd heard really good things so we were super excited to try it for a little weekend treat.
We walked in and we were greeted politely and shown to our table...honestly I felt embarrassed being shown to a tiny two person table that was sort of crammed in next to the bar, behind a wall by the toilets, really close to another large table so we could all hear exactly what the other table was talking about. I was facing the toilet...that was my view for the entire meal. I couldn't see any of the beautiful architecture or any of the pretty parts of the building. Just because you can squeeze another table in, doesn't mean you bloody should. Just smacks of greediness to be honest. You shouldn't compromise the customers experience so you can make more money.
We ordered the food; starter was nice enough but £16....for a STARTER....even if it is Ox cheek that is ridiculous for pub grub. It did come out really quickly which was good because we'd saved ourselves for the meal.
For main my boyfriend had the Sunday roast...it cost £26...it's not Michelin, I don't even think it's got a rosette. My boyfriend said it was tasty, but not worth £26. He got half a potato, an over done Yorkshire, loads of green beans...the meat was tasty but wasn't an expensive cut.
I had the vegan meal, again...tasty enough but...£24...for a plate of bloody vegetables and some tofu. Honestly that's a complete rip off. I could buy the ingredients for that meal for a fiver probably. I was genuinely shocked, but it tasted nice so I didn't want to be a Karen, after all we chose to eat there. The food did not live up to it's price point and you only discover that once you've started eating.
I thought dessert would redeem it. I was wrong...again £16 for bloody dessert...so expensive for just...very average pub grub dressed up to look pretty? I guess you're paying for plating at that point? I had a rhubarb panna cotta, with tea flavoured ice cream apparently, it was again, tasty, because let's be honest...it's a sweet dessert, but in reality it all just tasted of vanilla pretty much, so for £16!!! I expected so much more.
The waiter was lovely, very kind, but he kept asking if we wanted drinks and if we were sure we didn't want anything else to drink, which didn't come across as attentive but more pushing for us to buy alcohol (we've both worked in hospitality so we can see blatant up-selling when it's happening), as if they didn't already have a large enough mark-up on the food.
I wouldn't recommend and we won't go back. It was a disappointment from start to finish really, perhaps if we'd be seated with compassion it wouldn't have been such a crappy experience but yeah, the food isn't worth the price. I think the three courses were worth £35 MAX....not £65. Definitely go somewhere else if you like good food. There's heaps of cheaper restaurants around that serve the same food for way less. I would 100% recommend The Corner House instead. Costs roughly the same but the food is way better quality and the ambience is much nicer. Real shame.

Sunday roast beef is fantastic. From the lvoely beef right down to the cauliflower cheese and even the yummy bread and whipped butter. Really enjoyed it and we are super fussy on our Sunday roasts.

Booked in for a Sunday lunch, which is our favourite meal.
Our server Rhys was lovely, so friendly and even when it got busy he still still kept his composure and made sure we had what we needed.
The food was lovely and plentiful and they were very accommodating allowing my partner to have a kids size portion due to medical reasons

Loved our stay at this pub. Rooms are comfy, have all essentials. Room 8 had a separate entrance and was at the back of the pub, away from the village road. Quiet. It won't be quiet in the warmer months as it looks over the pub terrace. …

The Dog does not disappoint. Great service and creative and delicious food from the fish and chips to the venison. Great cocktails and atmosphere. We will return. Did not stay at the location but will give it a try next time.

We were celebrating my 70th and were given our wine free! I would highly recommed The Dog. Wew also met the owner, who was charming!

We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary at the Dog and it was perfect! The room was very comfortable and on such a hot day, cool. Good quality toiletries were provided along with hot drinks and water. We were made to feel very welcome by every member of staff and we felt very well looked after. Our meal was delicious and beautifully presented. The menu choice was excellent with an extensive drinks list. Breakfast too was perfect. We live fairly locally but would recommend the location of the Dog. It is easy to find and close to many interesting places.

We regularly enjoy The Dog, and were absolutely delighted at a recent celebratory family lunch for 20 on a Sunday. The consistency of food and service for such a large group is testament to the professionalism, passion and care that the entire team at The Dog have for providing an enjoyable, relaxed experience; from management through to front of house, service and the kitchens.
My roast sirloin of beef was - as always - fabulous. Everyone was very complementary about the food, friendly service and wines.
Our heartfelt thanks to Marilyn, Marc, Rob the Chef, Russell, Lauren, Alfie and all the staff at The Dog for the personal touch, thoughtfulness and effort in making this such a very special day; truly excellent food and service. A perfect lunch and afternoon. Very well done.
